Aisling McNiffe from Changing Places Ireland and her son Jack were delighted to have been at the official opening of the new Changing Places facility at St. James’s Hospital on 19th March 2026.
This is a landmark achievement — the first Changing Places facility delivered within a live acute adult hospital in Ireland. A vital step forward in ensuring people with complex disabilities have safe, dignified access to healthcare.
Changing Places are not a luxury, they are a necessity.
Well done to all involved in making this happen.

It is located just outside the Cardiology Respiratory Unit (CRU) and accessible directly from the main concourse. It is accessed by asking at the main reception or by pressing the buzzer at the facility. A member of security will open the door for you. It is open 24/7. It is solely for people with complex disabilities who need it.
Thanks to all who made this happen. Special thanks to the Ceo Professor Mary Day, the capital projects and facilities management admin Rebekah Woods and acute intellectual disability liaison nurse, Lorna McEvoy.
